What is Laser Therapy?

Specific red and near-infrared laser light wavelengths are delivered by Class IV K-Lasers in order to have a therapeutic effect on the body. These include improved tissue repair, improved circulation, reduced edema, and pain reduction. Since the 1970s, laser treatment has been practiced in Europe, and in 2002, the US Food and Drug Administration approved its use. Thousands of practitioners around the world, including Molalla OR practitioners now favor K-Lasers.

TREATMENT EFFECT

Laser therapy is a medical treatment that uses the application of red and near infra-red light to stimulate a process called photobiomodulation. Photobiomodulation or PBM improves circulation, bringing oxygen and nutrients to the injured area which encourages an improved healing environment.

Cellular Effects

Infrared laser light affects tissues at the cellular level while providing treatment. An increase in cellular metabolism increases the movement of nutrients across the cell membrane, resulting in an increase in the creation of cellular energy (ATP). This results in a series of favorable occurrences that hasten the healing process and lessen discomfort.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD A PATIENT RECEIVE CARE?

Daily treatment is possible for acute conditions, especially if they are accompanied by severe pain. When treatments are administered 2-3 times per week, more chronic problems respond better; after improvement, frequency can be reduced to once per week or once every other week.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?

The type of injuries being treated will determine how frequently treatment is performed. 4-6 sessions may be adequate for some acute injuries. People with more chronic conditions can need 6–12 treatments, or perhaps more. In order to control pain, conditions like severe arthritis may require continuing periodic care.

HOW SOON WILL THE EFFECTS BE FELT?

After the first treatment, you might notice an improvement in your condition (typically a decrease in discomfort). Sometimes, despite receiving several treatments, you won't feel better. This does not imply that the situation is not getting better. Results are frequently felt after 3–4 sessions and are cumulative with each treatment.

ARE THERE ANY NEGATIVE AFFECTS?

Very few side effects have ever been documented in the more than 20 years that healthcare professionals around the world have used this therapy. Sometimes old injuries or pain syndromes will feel worse for a few days following therapy because the healing process is more active.

HAS EFFECTIVENESS BEEN PROVEN THROUGH SCIENCE?

Yes. Numerous published research articles have shown that laser therapy is clinically effective. Among them, there are more than 100 carefully monitored scientific studies that show how beneficial laser therapy is for a wide range of clinical disorders.

DOES IT HURT? WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

During therapy, there is little to no feeling. Often, one experiences a gentle, calming warmth or tingling. Prior to pain relief, areas of pain or inflammation may be temporarily sensitive.
